April 12, 2011 New SIKE
OK, I did it. We moved again. I miss WordPress already. It’s always been number one in my blogging heart. But they have a permanent kibosh on a relationship with Amazon and small-fry bloggers. I use Amazon so much, and they have such wonderful sharing tools. I couldn’t bear it any longer. I away to blogger we go. Come with me!
Please consider using my Amazon links whenever you have Amazonian needs. I won’t make much, but even if I can get one school book a year out of it, I will be grateful
Loveyameanit WordPress. Adios.

April 11, 2011 Slugapalooza
We are rife–RIFE!–with slugs and snails around here. Did you know there are over forty kinds of slugs? Book it Dann-o, it is a fact Jack. Did you know their anus and reproductive organs are on their tops? Did you know they can be smaller than a penny or as big as a banana?
Did you know they are really freaking gross and that I hate them?
Consider yourself informed on all fronts. When it comes to harmless creatures and preschoolers, however, we must never let our adult bias stand in the way of curiosity!
When my in-laws were here last week, we came upon this little guy (and by “little,” I mean enormous):
Eww, it moves:
This feller is more the size we generally see around the house…in the grass, on tree branches, on the deck, hanging off the roof…pretty much everywhere. While his mother fought back a scowl, Mowgli let him meander at will up his little arm. He was certain the slug was looking for his belly button so that he could sleep there.
Thankfully, this particular slug was not able to bed down in my child’s bellybutton after all. Perhaps if he’d shown just a tad more initiative….

April 9, 2011 Believe it or not, summer really will come this year
Sooner or later!
I don’t have any sort of business relationship with these folks, but I would be remiss if I didn’t spread the word that UV Skinz is offering 20% off their long sleeve shirts the whole month of April.
We love these shirts (and hats! They have great kid’s hats) around here and I would not go without them, or trust another brand. My boys wear the long sleeved shirts all summer. The geriatric set has a hard time understanding the whole long sleeve deal, but they truly do not add more heat, and efficiently help keep little ones cool through evaporation. I don’t feel great about putting a bucket of sunscreen on my kids through the summer (or sunburn), so with these bad boys I only have to apply chemical UV barriers to their noses and the tops of their hands.
As of last summer, I also have my own UV Skinz and I really love it. I was hoping they would have more color options this year, but I’ll take what I can get and have no real complaints about my pink and white shirt.
Check them out!

April 1, 2011 Understanding the radiation situation in Japan
Children’s resources are for adults too! No shame in seeking out information meant for high school kids when you need to build up a knowledge base as an adult.
And a video explaining exactly what the problem is in Japan at the moment. This guy is a great teacher. Note that this class is taking place at Rockit Science, a non-profit educational center. Just EXACTLY the type of resource homeschoolers and aspiring homeschoolers get pumped up about!
